Fraud Email Threatens People’s Privacy in Exchange for Bitcoin:

There is a new wave of fraud email attacks going on as alerts are being sent to people threatening to leak their most intimate moments.

These messages typically begin with the attacker providing the recipient with “proof” that they have access to their systems by sharing a password. The sender then suggests that they’ve been able to break into the computer and use a form of malware as a way of watching a person’s screen and taking over their webcam. It claims that by doing so the sender has been able to put together a video of the recipient watching pornography. Then a series of threats and demands for ransom will be made.

If the person receiving the message doesn’t pay the requested amount in bitcoin, then that video will be distributed to friends and families of that user.
The perpetrators have acquired emails and passwords from one of the recent security breaches at big companies like LinkedIn, Facebook, or Yahoo!. This is how the password is included in the email. However, ManhattanTechSupport.com wants our clients to know that you are in good hands and not in any real danger because the only true threat is the stolen password. Do not click on the link or provide any account information, and certainly do not pay the ransom.

For more information about the attack and how ManhattanTechSupport.com can make sure you’re protected please call 212-710-2338.
